BOOK IN A YEAR
BEGINNING NOVEMBER 6TH
APPLICATION DEADLINE OCTOBER 28TH
CLASS LIMITED TO 8 STUDENTS
Writing a book is a tremendous undertaking. Whether fiction or nonfiction, the process of writing a manuscript allows us to connect with worlds outside our own, enhancing our powers of empathy and developing our understanding of the human experience. Novelist Jesmyn Ward has said that, “Fiction reveals truths that obscure reality.”
Meanwhile, in memoir, you are exploring your own life and memory and those of the people often closest to you. You will excavate moments in your life that may have been buried, dormant for years, while also examining your past by writing about people and places that have formed you at every stage. At the end, you will have a narrative pulling all of your memories, experience and insight into a single narrative. In the process, however, one of the most difficult elements of doing this work can sometimes be doing it solo. Luckily, you don’t have to do it alone!
In this private, application-only “Book in a Year” class, I will help and support you during the process of creation, outlining, and writing, as you compose scenes and revise them on the path to a complete manuscript. This unique class is designed to give you the basic skills you need to embark upon the journey of writing a book…but does so by creating a community in a safe and controlled environment under my direction. Most importantly, it provides accountability with realistic deadlines, instruction, and guidance, and at the end of the year, I will read your complete manuscript and offer feedback.
